About Dorine Lerner

A portrait of Artist Dorine Lerner

Born into an immigrant Italian family, Dorine Lerner's artistic drive was to draw and paint. Expected to learn practical skills, however, she apprenticed to her Uncle Maurizio, a master tailor. Shapes, colors, textures and design converged and she ultimately received a degree in fashion design from Meyer School of Design in New York City.

In the ensuing years, while raising her family, Dorine painted extensively with particular emphasis on two- and three-dimensional acrylic Color Field paintings, later progressing to the Stain Soak method. Fate, the demands of an eager clientele and an invitation to be in the Metropolitan Museum's "Collaboration 80" diverted her into the world of fashion. Shortly thereafter she established her own atelier de couture and became a featured designer at Henri Bendel in New York City. For 20 years her designs were marketed in select department stores and specialty shops nationwide.

Upon retiring to Bucks County, PA, her first love once again re-appeared. Dorine returned to painting and attended the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. Equally adept at traditional and modern painting, her current projects are by commission and encompass diverse styles and Pastiche. Her works pay homage to a lifelong devotion to design and aesthetics.
